Notice to parents
What happens to your child's schoolwork.
This is the notice we ask you to read before your first upload. Version 2026-09-14.
Who we are
Sophia Studies is operated by Daniel Bravo, sole proprietor, in the United States. Write to hello@sophiastudies.com with any question about your child's information, or to ask us to delete it. A postal address is available on request.
The parent holds the account
We do not create accounts for children and never ask a child for information. A parent or guardian creates the account, uploads the material, and confirms they are the parent before anything is uploaded. Your child studies on your session.
What we collect about a child
- The pages you upload — photos or PDFs of study guides, worksheets and notes. Please crop out a name, school, or teacher first; we only need the study content.
- The study material built from them — the summary, flashcards, games, pictures and practice tests.
- Practice results — which questions were answered, scores, and dates, so the results page can show progress.
- Optional settings — a grade level, and a nickname if you choose to enter one. A real name is never required and we recommend a nickname.
Who else receives it, and why
- Anthropic (Claude API) — receives the uploaded pages, because reading the page is how the practice gets built. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, API inputs are not used to train their models and are retained for a limited period for safety monitoring, then deleted.
- OpenRouter, and through it Google (picture drawing) and Deepgram (read-aloud) — receive only generated study text, such as “a rain gauge” or a quiz question. They never receive your uploads.
- Amazon Web Services — stores the uploads and study sets in the United States on our behalf.
- Stripe — processes payment if you buy a pass. Card details go to Stripe, never to us.
- We do not sell, rent, or share a child's information with anyone else.
How long we keep it
- Uploaded pages: deleted automatically 400 days after upload.
- Study sets, pictures and results: kept while the account exists.
- Anything you delete — a set or the account — goes immediately, with its uploads.
- Backups of our database roll off within about 35 days.
Your rights as the parent
- Review what we hold — ask us, or open the account and look.
- Delete it — any study set, or the whole account and everything in it, from Settings, at any time. Or email us and we'll do it by hand.
- Refuse further collection — stop uploading, or delete the account. We will not condition your child's use of the service on giving us more than we need.
No advertising, ever
There are no ads, no ad networks, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking of your child across other sites. We keep ordinary server logs to run the service.
